it seens that we have the same small space. We had the same xtra wall box attached to the ceiling, we ripped it though (from floor to ceiling we have 8 ft). The kitchen did not have enough storage space, so by ripping the box it gave us an xtra 12 inches of cabinet space. We now have 39″ cabinets and the normal amount of space from counters to bottom of cabinets. I wanted the same color for my kitchen, but unfortunately I felt in like with a granite stone (BLUE STORM)did not match

Nope, you don’t cut on it – just use cutting boards. As for maintenance, meaning you need to apply this ‘coating’ every couple months or so. Its not to terrible. Its a sealer that keeps water out. And you’ll want to wipe up water pretty quickly and not let it sit.

hmm…maintenance? That’s a dirty word. What all is required? I might be able to manage for the cost. Do you cut on it? or just use a cutting board? Thanks

Its hardwood from Ikea. It’s much cheaper than granite. Maybe a small less than laminate. We like it, looks fantastic and really durable. Takes some maintenance though.

What kind of counter top is that? It looks like wood. Is it cheaper than granite or laminate?

Very nice. It is rewarding to do all that work yourself, no? We just finished doing our kitchen in much the same way as yours. With Ikea cabinets too (at least that’s what yours appear to be). Again, excellent job on those, looks fantastic. Huge improvement.
