Interior Design

he elements of interior design consist of everything that you can see and touch within an enclosed space. Buildings, offices, homes, condominiums, apartments are all examples of enclosed spaces, and therefore they all consist of the various elements that compose interior design. The most common interior design elements include space, color, texture, light, and fabrics. But, there are also the basic principles of design. These are harmony, balance, focus or focal point, rhythm, proportion, and color.

The most obvious element of interior design is space. When it comes to designing a room, choosing fabrics, selecting furniture, or arranging lighting you will always be bound to the space configurations that are inherent in the room. Understanding how to work with the space you’ve been presented with is one of the most vital aspects of interior designs. Many designers have mastered the art of taking a small space and making it look larger, or maximizing a room’s potential by working with the space they’ve been given. Basically, space can be defined as a three dimensional structure that consists of distance, area, and volume. Interior designers transform empty space into a work of visual beauty and art.

Harmony can be considered as the thread that weaves itself throughout the space, connecting one room to another. When considering interior design, it is vital to realize that every room is part of a whole. Therefore, the designer usually chooses color to connect one room to another. There is a wide variety of ways and methods that interior design is used to make harmony in living spaces, but color is the most defining way.

In addition to harmony, balance is another very vital interior design principle. There are three types of balance, these are asymmetrical, symmetrical, and radial symmetry. Asymmetrical balance is a very common aspect of interior design. It is represented when objects are not placed or arranged in a fashion that lines up evenly. Asymmetrical balance is revered in interior design for its ability to present movement and keeps lines flowing in an fascinating arrangement.

Symmetry is inherent in the human form. The human face is full of symmetry with both sides being a mirror image of the other. Therefore, in interior design as well as interior decorating, many people openly embrace symmetry. Arranging matching items on two sides of an object is very well loved. Symmetry brings balance and plays an vital role in interior design. The other type of balance is radial. Radial is when the symmetry of a space is centered or focused around an object.

Another vital aspect of focus is developing a specific focal point in a room. A focal point is used to draw the eye or line of sight when someone first looks at a room. There are many ways in which interior design makes a focal point. But, there are typically a number of tools that designers use. These include line, color, and the overall plot or layout of the room.

How to Turn Your Yard and Garden Into a “Naturescape”

Water-wise “naturescapes” offer savings

When it comes to watering your lawn and paying water bills, sound gardening practices can cut down homeowner investments of effort, time and money, reports the American Association of Nurserymen. And, you don’t have to turn your lovely colorful landscape into a rock garden featuring a sprinkling of cactus plants.

This well loved approach to water management and water-conserving landscape design has been commonly known as Xeriscaping, and because the term comes from the Greek for “dry” many people assume it describes desert landscapes. That couldn’t be further from the truth. In contrast, the approach focuses on working with nature’s guidelines to make a lush looking landscape. As a matter of fact, “naturescaping” can be another way to describe this water-wise landscape design and management.

Turning your yard and garden into a “naturescape” requires some common sense and plotting. That entails choosing the best plants, soils, locations, and irrigation systems for efficient water use. Some of those water-wise plant materials include vibrantly colored perennials and lush varieties of shrubs.

The keys to “naturescaping” involve how, when, and what you water in taking care of your property. Low-volume irrigation systems such as drip-watering devices reduce water use by 50 percent. Early-morning watering cuts down on evaporation.

Water-wise “naturescapes” offer savings. Grouping plants by water requirements is a smart way to guard against overwatering some plants and underwatering others. Save water by replacing leaky parts of irrigation devices and positioning sprinklers to shower areas of vegetation, as opposed to the driveway, garage, or deck.

A constant among guidelines for being water-wise is maintaining the health of your plants. Strong plants don’t need as much water as weak ones do. We have many reports from gardeners that Spray-N-Grow helps their plants withstand drought much better than those not sprayed with Spray-N-Grow. That’s because Spray-N-Grow helps plants develop a better root structure-more roots that are larger and longer. Plants that have a better root structure are more able to “find” any available moisture.

Be sure to add the needed soil amendments and mulch around plants to keep the roots moist. When adding to your landscape, don’t forget to include drought-resistant plants and grasses to those you already have.

Before you start plotting your new “naturescape” or plotting how to convert your current landscape into a more water-efficient one, be sure to check with the experts at your retail nursery/garden center. They can offer the most valuable help for getting the best results.

Not Sure What to Get the Man Who Has Everything for Christmas? Try a Luxury Bath Towel

Christmas shopping season is upon us once again and I am fortunate enough to be a man who has nearly everything. A new car wouldn’t go amiss but I am pretty pleased with my lot and already have a 40 inch plasma TV. So last year I sat there on the day of excellent will expecting all of the usual rubbish to be bestowed upon me wrapped in Rudolph covered paper. Socks, dull, slippers, dull, a nut cracker, oh thanks dear. This is when I got an unexpected and surprisingly gratifying treat from underneath the mass of pine needles at the back of the room.

I really got something that I have liked and really loved using everyday for the whole year.

Rarely is anything as pleasurable as stepping out of a steaming hot bath on to a plush luxury bath mat and being wrapped into a fabulously luxurious warm thick bath towel. This may sound like a sad thing to say, but reckon about it. Having a warm luxury towel grabbed straight from a boiling hot towel rail and indulging in the squeeze of 820 gsm of pure Turkish cotton. I can reckon of things much worse!

This is when Christmas comes into the equation. Imagine me last year on Boxing Day feeling a small worse for wear having the comfort of a groundbreaking new towel wrapped around myself. Nothing better.

All of my previous bath towels were scraggy, smelly and on the verge of being classified as an independent eco system. I don’t like to reckon of all the bugs that were infesting in them, I suppose they could have been washed but they always lose that soft feel and thickness that they had when I bought them. That’s why I reckon it’s vital to buy a quality bath towel because then it lasts for so much longer and is thicker than the budget paper thin beach towels I used to try and pass off as bath towels.

With this one I got last year I would have to say if anything it has got even better with age. It seemed to become even more absorbent after more washes and is now even nicer to use than on that first use on Boxing Day.

If I were to recommend a towel to be added on a Christmas list this year it would have to be one with as many loops of fine cotton as physically possible. The more loops, the more cotton and therefore the greater the towel’s drying ability. It’s essential that it’s really heavy too, that’s a sign of a excellent towel. I am sure many men around the World would be extremely thankful for a gift that’s for everyday life not just for Christmas.
