I completely agree, landscape design or any design work requires a strong passion for the medium. I am a landscape designer in Alberta Canada and didn’t ” just happen on my profession. At a young age fell in like with visual art, had two parents who loved to the back yard and most importantly worked in the field for 16 years. Landscaping is complex!! I’m not against cad programs and currently use Dynascape but I really feel hand drawn designs tell the whole tale. (No need for video explanation)

Sure wish I could find competent, helpful people to perform this level of work in my area. Thank you for taking the time to educate and inspire folks to a better yard design.

I know. That would have made it better. I had intended to do more videos on this design already but it got place on hold. I’m really just getting back to it now. But, it is kind of a preliminary to show shape and a few considerations. Still, I know what you’re saying. There will be more videos to this soon.
I probably should have waited to place it out or at least wrote a more complete script to it. It was intended to be a series.

I thought you were going to discuss plants, trees, and decorative features that you chose for the mediterranean garden.
For example if I said I was doing a Japanese garden I would maybe discuss cherry blossom trees, bamboo, water features, Koi fish, rock garden parts, etc.

Lots of folks who are simply interested in plants or gardening go to school to study landscaping. Inspiration and passion are key. But, with study and knowledge, they can be bought. A “friend of mine” who had very small passion for landscaping but is an artist has one of the most successful landscaping companies in the country. Like any other skill, the better you get at it, the more inspired you can be. You’ll know within a few years of doing it if you are.

I’m not sure what you’re expecting to see. This design could be any style depending on elements and plants. For most people looking for design thoughts, they’re looking for shapes as well as planting schemes. This video was made to give people thoughts for shape and considerations in design. The plants we’ll use, cobble pavers, and other elements will combine with the style of the home to be Med. It’s a top flat view. What are you expecting to see?

What is so mediterranean about this design?

I cannot imagine that anyone would hire you if you are not inspired. I would not. My friend is a landscape architecture and he absolutely likes it. His passion makes him study more and he therefore does better work. If you just look at it as a job, it will show. Follow your passion, whatever it is, just know that with creative jobs you really have to have the inspiration.
