Construction spending in the US for the month of January fell significantly, as the housing crisis continues. The southern state of Florida is feeling the downturn more than most. Thousands of homes have been foreclosed and buildings sites abandoned, leaving investors and construction companies in the lurch. Cath Turner reports.

Mark my words, this year the economy will bottom out and next year slowly start to recover. It will take three years to turn things around. A benefit from this time will be a greener and stronger economy for hundreds of years into the future.

I like Al Jazzera very much because of its fresh perspective on news tales from around the world and for covering tales and issues that are rarely covered by the major American television news outlets.
But, it is striking to me that at least 95% of the tales that they present about life in the US is negative or is presented with a negative tone.
As far as the economy goes, yes, times are terrible here. But they are also pretty terrible everywhere right about now.
